We will discontinue the clear anodised OpenBeam range. Clear anodised OpenBeam has not met up to our expectations in sales. Black is more popular. Also we just introduced MakerBeamXL. A 15mmx15mmx15mm profile as well and we have decided to foucs on MakerBeamXL.
In March we will introduce a clear anodised version of MakerBeamXL so there will be an alternative for customers.
In order to cater to OpenBeam fans we will continue sales of OpenBeam black anodised.
OpenBeam brackets (102643, 102632) are out of stock. This means we are also out of stock for OpenBeam precut kits. We are not sure when we will have a new batch of brackets in. Therefore we decided to create an alternative: the OpenBeam precut kit with XL brackets.
The OpenBeam T-brackets (102643) and L-brackets (102632) are out of stock. From our supplier we have not had a answer yet on when to expect these brackets in. They are working on a time table. Once we have an estimated delivery time we will let you know.
This means we are out of stock for the OpenBeam precut kit black (100540) and clear (100551) as well.
Since we now have an alternative for these brackets with the MakerBeamXL right angle bracket (101732) and the T-bracket (103004) we decided to create an alternative: the OpenBeam precut kit with XL brackets. We aim to have this online before the end of January 2017.
Since we are also almost out of OpenBeam feet and we order these from the same supplier we also changed from the OpenBeam feet (100966) to the vinyl end caps for OpenBeam (100977) in this precut kit with XL brackets.
Timothy sent us a blog post with all the details of his project. In his project he uses MakerBeam to combine arduino and 8×8 Neopixel matrices by Adafruit. In his blog post, Art, Electrons and Computation, you can read more about his MakerBeam project. Also he added some great pictures that show his building process.
Update: @Raffaello86 travelled around with Panther. Raffaello and his Powerful Autonomous eNTity High-End Robot were present at MakerFaire Tokyo in August and there was a poster presentation of PANTHER closer to our home. In September the GPU Technology Conference was held (GTCEU16) in Amsterdam. Close to Raffaelo’s home he presented Panther at MakerFaire Rome where he met met Grant Imahar (Mythbusters).
blog post from May 6, 2016:
We received great pictures through Twitter (@makerbeam) about a really nice robotics project from @Raffaello86.
Peter made a Fischer Technik Unimog U400 strengthened with OpenBeam. Below you can see some pictures of Peter’s creation. On the blog of the Fischer Technik community you find more pictures and more info.
These old beams are not hollow core and are not threaded. Otherwise these beams are the same: measurements (10x10mm) and anodised in both black and clear.
This volume discount also applies to screws with a serrated head. In our quest for the perfect screw for MakerBeam we also made screws with a head that has a serrated bottom. We ultimately chose to go with the square headed screws we still sell nowadays. Here is a link to an old blog post: MakerBeam’s test of the bolts
And last but not least we also have 900mm MakerBeam lengths in clear for sale. The thread tapping of this batch of 900mm beams was done in such a way that we cannot guarantee good quality. Therefore we offer these 900mm lengths at a discount.
We share an office space with our colleagues from Wandy. One of them has two laptops but when in the office he wants to enjoy big screens. He wanted to place these screens higher than the added normal stands could provide. To optimise his workstation he turned to OpenBeam and created one computerstand to hold the two flatscreens. Here are some pictures.
